Speckle noise caused by random fluctuations in the medical ultrasound imaging system is one of the most important factors that reduce the resolution and contrast of ultrasound images. Distorted image quality can have a negative impact on the diagnostic process. Therefore, image compounding is often used to remove speckle noise in ultrasound images.
In this study, the image warping method is investigated to correct the distortion in the ultrasound b-scan images generated using a cylindirical phantom by reducing speckle noise. The results show that by using a phantom with distinct edges, the image warping can effectively eliminate distortion in image compounding.
