Tarik Bugra, one of the most prominent writers of the Republican Era Turkish Literature, in his novels was concerned with many social, political and cultural matters and succesfully handled them within the framework of literature without giving way to the temptation to carry out propoganda. One of these novels is Yagmur Beklerken (Waiting for the Rain), which deals with our recent history and examines in a town setting the question of the Free (or Liberal) Repubican Party, which was one of the first examples of attempts to switch to multiparty life. On the other hand, another writer of Turkish Literature as distinguished as Tagrik Bugra is the contemporary story writer Mustafa Kutlu, who enriches the genre of long story which he initiated with "Uzun Hikaye" (Long Story) published in 2000 with books he releases in the autumn every year. The writer's book entitiled Tufandan Once (Before the Flood) is a long story which incorporates many storytelling techniques and make allusions to the current political issues and certain values by employing a foundation laying ceremony in a small Anatolian town. The present paper is aimed at making a comparative study of the two works of art mentioned above within the boundaries of "comparative literature" (accordingly two different genres:novel-long story) which is consdered to be a subcategory of literature in terms of content and form bearing in mind the characterictics of the period when the works were written.
