This study aims to determine the bryodiversity of Safranbolu which is district of Karabuk province. Within this study, field trips were organized to the research area at different seasons during 2013-2014. Throughout these studies, with an examination of 517 bryophyte specimens collected from 53 localities, together with 24 from Marchantiophyta (Liverworts), 154 from Bryophyta (Mosses) of the area, in total 178 specific and infraspecific taxa, belonging to 47 families and 108 genera, have been identified. When looking the distribution of taxa according to their families, the richest ones are Pottiaceae (33), Brachytheciaceae (17), Grimmiaceae (12), Orthotrichaceae (12) and Bryaceae (10) for mosses, Lophocoleaceae (4), Ricciaceae (3), Porellaceae (2) and Frullaniaceae (2) for liverworts. The richest genera are Orthotrichum (10), Grimmia (6), Tortula (6) and Brachythecium (5) for mosses, Riccia (3), Lophocolea (3), Frullania (2) and Porella (2) for liverworts. However, there was not found any taxon of Anthocerotophyta (Hornworts) in collected samples from the study area.
In the light of these findings, 12 specific and infraspecific taxa have been regarded as the new records for square A2 according to the Henderson (1961) Grid System. Also, Grimmia muehlenbeckii Schimp. have been recorded for the second time in Turkey, with detailed collected locality.
