Nevertheless, over the past 30 years, considerable improvements have been made. Today, the pulp and paper industry has gained significant improvement by modernisation and increased competitiveness by privatisation. There have been numerous heavy investments made in an attempt to catch up with the modern world.
This paper deals with the history and chronological developments of the pulp and paper industry in Turkey. Utilisation of waste paper and non-wood lignocellulosic materials is also discussed. Furthermore, the current situation is summarised and some suggestions offered.
